The Tao

"The Way"

THE TAO IS:
- the source of creation
- inexplicable
- the whole universe
- the way of nature
- a force pervading all of life
The Tao that can be told is not the eternal Tao;
The name that can be named is not the eternal name.
The Nameless is the origin of Heaven and Earth;
The Named is the mother of all things.

......

All things in the world come from being.
And being comes from non-being. (form comes from formlessness)?

The Tao is a complex, inexplicable force that pervades all aspects of life. People cannot understand or describe the Tao perfectly with their finite minds, and can only begin to explore the complex depths of the nature of the Tao.

The Tao is not a a concrete thing. It is a force or substance that can be observed in the world. Thinking of the Tao as an object degrades the Tao as something less than reality. This is not the case. The Tao is not something that is worshiped. There are deities in Taoism, but the Tao itself is NOT a deity.  The Tao INCLUDES may deities, all of which depend on the Tao, as does all things in the universe. However, the Tao is a concept that is regarded as true, not a religious figure.
