Alchemy
Taoist alchemy is mostly about transforming human beings to give them a longer life and bring them closer to the Tao. Such alchemy is achieved through practices such as meditation, massages, and yoga.
Neidan (internal alchemy)
Taoists practice internal alchemy, also known as Neidan. Physical activities such as yoga and meditation are used to change a person both mentally and physically, bring purity, and tie them in a closer harmony with the Tao. It is achieved by working on themselves, without the use of chemicals, to transform elements within their body into purer forms that will promote the energy of life.
Waidun (external alchemy)
External alchemy involves adding something to the body from outside, such as elixirs and massages. It involves diet and the use of mineral and herbs to promote long life.
